Video has changed social media

Text will always have a place on the internet as reading is a great way to get information, but most individuals are more responsive to multimedia and video. Since the early 1900 we have been fascinated by moving objects and sound. Over the past few decades technology has made it possible to watch video on devices that fit in the palm of your hand and the internet has become the preferred medium to get this video to our devices.

Everyone is talking about that video they saw on the internet last night or 5 min ago. People are consuming video everywhere at home, on public transport, in shops and even at work.

Social sites such as Facebook, Instagram(IGTV), LinkedIn and Twitter have adopted video as one of the ways to share information. All it takes to share a video on social websites is one click.

Twitter has just rolled out an easier, faster video playback solution. They have realised they need to improve on their video capabilities in order to gain new users, and to keep current users coming back. Twitter have said they want to make video feel like a native experience. They want to make it easier for people to use. Facebook’s major focus has been on video. They have recently tweaked their News Feed Algorythm to surface higher quality videos. Although this is still under test, and not widely available, they are implementing a feature that surfaces similar, popular videos after you finished watching a mobile news feed.

Video is becoming a necessity in growing your brands. It is imperative that you start thinking of including it in your marketing strategy. People no longer want to read long-winded articles - when they can watch a video. If the video is informative or entertaining it will be shared among friends and colleagues. It is said that by 2018 the internet will be 79% video-driven.

Internet is TV on demand; we watch what we want when we want. People are more likely to give up television than their internet (Pew Research Centre Survey). If we step back and observe, we will see people attached to the internet all around us. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Vimeo and our beloved emails fit on a small device which we carry around in our pockets and handbags.

The internet started as plain text and through the years images, sounds and animations were added. The next generation of internet is here, bigger and better, with the advent of video. Whether we're shoving our devices in people’s faces, emailing or sharing over social media, video is being seen and shared by millions of people every minute of every day.

Our children are already saying "remember when you had to read the internet."

Video Marketing

Video Marketing is becoming essential in the Advertising and Marketing of your business. Online video is growing at an alarming rate because busy consumers find it less demanding to use than traditional website content.

Web video is dominating the internet and is being shared across all social platforms such as Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. There is no better way to present emotional content - it is engaging and effective. By communicating on multiple levels, viewers absorb your message within seconds.

Product demo videos are a great way to showcase your company, service or product and should be a priority in your digital marketing strategy. Website videos can help you with branding, increase sales or simply explain your product.

With millions of South African consumers visiting the internet daily, web videos are becoming a crucial part of online marketing. Online video is playing an important part in many companies advertising and promotions strategies.

Video marketing is the future of online branding. Learning how to plan for your next video, finding topics, scripting, filming, editing and distributing your videos is crucial in moving forward with your digital strategy.

Over the next couple of months, I will share my journey and discoveries as I dive into the world of Video Marketing. There is so much more to Video Marketing than just making videos. They have to be engaging and make the viewer want more. When you upload your videos it is important to recognize that you need to do much more than just upload. You need good SEO text, Keyword rich titles and a Thumbnail that make viewers want to click and watch. YouTube no longer looks at views as a measurement of how your videos are doing, they want to see that your audience is engaged and are getting the content they are looking for.
